5G starting from January
Kathmandu, Nepal Telecom is going to provide 5G facility for common people from January 1 (Pus 17). Telecom spokesperson Shovan Adhikari informed that preparations are being made to make 5G available to the general public from that date, even though it is only as a test. “From January, the work is being done according to the preparations to provide 5G facilities to the common people,” he said.
Telecom is currently testing 5G internally at four different locations in the country. The official informed that the equipment testing is being done in the designated places.
With the aim of adopting the use of 5G, which is the latest generation of mobile technology, in Nepal, the government had given facilities to Nepal Telecom for testing. According to the same decision of the government, the regulator Nepal Telecommunication Authority provided the necessary frequency to the telecom in the 2600 MHz band.
The Authority has provided time facility to Telecom to test 5G for one year. It is stipulated that the test period will start after informing the authority that the equipment connection work has been completed. Accordingly, Telecom is doing the work of connecting and testing the equipment. Telecom will open it to the general public after the internal testing is successful.
Telecom, which is preparing to open from January, will have to provide this facility free of charge for its customers.
After the one-year trial period ends, the authority will withdraw the frequency provided for the trial. However, if Telecom wants to, it can conduct a test in the frequency of the same band in coordination with the authority.
Although Telecom has accelerated the 5G test, it has said that its progress has slowed down recently.
Due to the election of the House of Representatives and the State Assembly, the existing service has to be kept tight. However, according to the preparations for testing 5G, the work is being done to start in January, said the spokesman officer.
Telecom started 4G service in Nepal from January 1, 2017. Five years later, the company is preparing to launch 5G service. While 4G is useful for individual consumers, 5G is considered useful especially for device-to-device communication.
Through the use of 5G, you can use the internet with a maximum speed of 10 GB per second. Since 5G is considered a barrier-free technology, it is used in work such as IoT, MTU communication. Driverless cars, smart cities, drone technology and big data have become possible through the use of 5G.
So far, about 70 countries in the world have started using 5G. Neighboring country India has also opened 5G to the general public two months ago.
